Also, by going directly to the owner you are going to get a better deal as the owner has no commission to pay to a company and there is usually greater flexibility over the number of days you can book. In many countries, the national tourist board grades self catering properties. For example, in the United Kingdom, there is star system going form two stars for basic accommodation to five stars for a high degree of luxury. However, many properties may not be graded by a tourist board and this should not put you off booking. So, if you are someone who does not like staying in accommodation that is face less and lacking character, like the flexibility of being able to come and go as you wish, staying in a self catering cottage or cabin is the ideal solution.
